Meet one of our grand storepreneurs. Apiwe Nxusani-Mawela owns Brewhogs, a microbrewery based in Kyalami, and Brewster’s Craft, a training and consultancy company based here at Co.Space Midrand.
Apiwe is the first black person in South Africa to be approved as a Brewing Training Provider by the Institute of Brewing & Distilling and the first person in South Africa to complete a National Diploma in Clear Fermented Beverages (www.brewsterscraft.co.za).

To add to that, Apiwe holds a BSc degree in Microbiology and Genetics from University of the Witwatersrand, a BSc Honours degree in Microbiology from the University of Pretoria, a Brewing Diploma from the Institute of Brewing & Distilling, and a Diploma in Master Brewing. She started her career as a Brewing Trainee at South African Breweries (SAB), where she worked 8 years in several key positions such as Project Brewer, Brand Brewer, and Craft Brewer and Brewing Area Manager. Apiwe is also a certified beer judge in South Africa through the Beer Judging Certification Programme (BJCP).
To her, brewing is a career, passion and hobby. Apiwe loves her craft and believes that craft brewing is about perfecting the balance between the science and the art.
