“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, the just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while” – Steve Jobs
Whether right or wrong, Steve was on to something; connecting things is a form of problem solving and it is a skill that all successful artists and entrepreneurs have. Creativity, art and entrepreneurship all go hand in hand. Artists and entrepreneurs alike will tell you that when it comes to creativity, art and entrepreneurship, nothing is set in stone – there is no specific formula for success. Like entrepreneurs, artists carve their own formula for success, through mistakes, failures and learning.
This week we are celebrating all artists and art entrepreneurs in fun industries like fine art, design and photography. It’s no secret that every artist and art entrepreneur craves a space that is as creative as they are. So, what does an ideal creative space have? Let’s have a look, shall we?
(1) It is the right size and highly customisable
A creative working space should be tailored to your needs, preferences and personality. It needs to have all the right extras in the right places and be the right size. When it comes to your ideal creative working space, size really does matter. It shouldn’t be too big or too small; it needs to be just right. Whether you’re a painter, the lead singer of your very own band or both, you need a space that allows you to express your creativity.
At Storehouse, our spaces are like a blank canvas, they allow you to indulge in a bit of self-expression. You can customise and personalise them to your taste. We have 6 basic unit sizes to choose from ranging from 6m2 to 36 m2. Need your creative working space to be bigger or smaller than that? No problem. We can join or divide our units to create the right size for you.
We also have optional extras that you can use to make your creative working space bigger, better, brighter and much more creative. Our optional extras include electrical reticulation to provide lighting and run equipment, air-conditioning for climate control, aluminium and glass shopfront for more light and ventilation, painted, carpeted or tiled flooring, painted walls, shelving for storage and a mezzanine floor for additional space. These extra features are optional which means that you only pay for what you want to use.
(2) It enables you to socialise and collaborate
Artists and art entrepreneurs do whatever it takes to hone their craft. They enjoy networking and engaging with other creatives and their inspiring stories, that’s why they need an environment that allows them to connect, engage and share with likeminded individuals. An environment that oozes creativity and has potential collaborative, creative and entrepreneurial opportunities.
The Storehouse community does just that; it has a diversity of artists, creatives and entrepreneurs with different backgrounds such as fashion design, graphic design, web development, fine art, woodwork, and carpentry. Want to find out more about some of the members of our community? Read about them in our Thursdate features.
We also have monthly Friday events at our business Hub such as breakfasts and braais where our storepreneurs get to network, share stories and collaborate with each other. Want to check out a gallery of our previous Friday events? Or want to know when our next event is? Find out on our Facebook Page. Our business Hub is also designed to enable collaboration and co-working. We have all sorts of settings; everything from meeting rooms, pause areas, coffee zones, a large exhibition studio, to brainstorming spaces.
(3) It allows you access all the time, every time
Artists and entrepreneurs do not have fixed working hours, they need a space that allows them access to work all the time, every time. For them, inspiration can come knocking at any given time and it usually does. A sculptor, writer and potter all need the freedom to create their artwork without interruptions.
Storehouse understands this that why we give you 24/7 access to your creative working space. Our business is about ensuring that you have the freedom to create anytime you want to. We even have a standby generator installed to ensure that your creativity is not affected by load shedding. We keep the lights on so you can work on your artwork anytime you want.
If you crave a creative working space that is as creative as you are, then you’re in luck. Storehouse is your all in one creative space that allows you to work, play and store. We give you the space you need to create an inspiring studio, showroom, workshop or anything inbetween. We give you more than enough room to store, organise and display your art supplies and finished artwork. Interested? Fill in our contact form or request a quote and we will in touch with you.
